Daphne Lawless continues her series of backgrounders to the stories on our new album.
This is the other openly political song on the album, and can be best described as a satire which is also a curse. It is directed at one highly reprehensible man – New Zealand’s leading fascist occultist and ideologist – whose real identity is obvious to anyone familiar with the local far-Right, and who has personally targeted me in his publications. The song details a particular hilarious and humiliating event in his life (October 23rd, 2004, Wellington). Let’s just say that I am familiar with the tactics of magick.
Early reviews suggest that this is the "hit single" from the album, and the bassline which (unconsciously) echoes Blondie's "Warchild" and the verse structure which (coincidentally) parallels Iron Maiden's "Run to the Hills" is probably part of that. Tricia's artwork for this piece was based on a "photomontage" by myself, which is a very clumsy homage to the work of John Heartfield.
